Unless a more specific storage period has been stated within this privacy policy, your personal data will remain with us until the purpose for data processing no longer applies. If you assert a legitimate request for deletion or revoke consent to data processing, your data will be deleted unless we have other legally permissible reasons for storing your personal data (e.g. retention periods under tax or commercial law); in the latter case, deletion will take place after these reasons cease to apply.

You have the right to request the restriction of the processing of your personal data. You can contact us at any time for this purpose. The right to restriction of processing exists in the following cases:

  • If you contest the accuracy of your personal data stored by us, we usually need time to verify this. For the duration of the review, you have the right to request the restriction of the processing of your personal data.
  • If the processing of your personal data was/is unlawful, you can request the restriction of data processing instead of deletion.
  • If we no longer need your personal data, but you need it for the exercise, defence or assertion of legal claims, you have the right to request the restriction of the processing of your personal data instead of deletion.
  • If you have lodged an objection pursuant to Art. 21 para. 1 GDPR, a balancing of your interests and ours must be carried out. As long as it has not yet been determined whose interests prevail, you have the right to request the restriction of the processing of your personal data.

If SSL or TLS encryption is activated, the data you transmit to us cannot be read by third parties.

4. Data collection on this website

Cookies

Our internet pages use so-called “cookies”. Cookies are small data packets and do not cause any damage to your end device. They are stored either temporarily for the duration of a session (session cookies) or permanently (permanent cookies) on your end device. Session cookies are automatically deleted after the end of your visit. Permanent cookies remain stored on your end device until you delete them yourself or automatic deletion is carried out by your web browser.

Cookies may originate from us (first-party cookies) or from third-party companies (so-called third-party cookies). Third-party cookies enable the integration of certain services of third-party companies within websites (e.g. cookies for processing payment services).

Cookies have various functions. Numerous cookies are technically necessary because certain website functions would not work without them (e.g. the shopping cart function or the display of videos). Other cookies may be used to evaluate user behaviour or for advertising purposes.

Cookies that are required for carrying out the electronic communication process, for providing certain functions desired by you (e.g. for the shopping cart function) or for optimising the website (e.g. cookies for measuring the web audience) (necessary cookies) are stored on the basis of Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR, unless another legal basis is specified. The website operator has a legitimate interest in the storage of necessary cookies for the technically error-free and optimised provision of its services. If consent to the storage of cookies and comparable recognition technologies has been requested, processing is carried out exclusively on the basis of this consent (Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a GDPR and § 165 para. 1 TKG 2021); consent can be revoked at any time.

The following technically necessary storage mechanisms are currently used on our website in particular:

  • lang: This cookie stores the language of the website selected by you. Storage period: up to 1 year.
  • PHPSESSID: This session cookie serves the technical assignment of your session and is currently used in particular for language management. Storage period: until the end of the session.
  • mapConsentGranted (Local Storage): This entry stores whether you have consented to the loading of external map content.
  • introSeen (Local Storage): This entry stores whether the introductory dialog has already been displayed.

You can set your browser so that you are informed about the setting of cookies and allow cookies only in individual cases, exclude the acceptance of cookies for certain cases or in general, and activate the automatic deletion of cookies when closing the browser. When cookies are deactivated, the functionality of this website may be restricted. You can also delete entries already stored in the browser’s local storage via your browser settings.

If further cookies and services are used on this website, you can find this in this privacy policy.

Server log files

The provider of the pages automatically collects and stores information in so-called server log files, which your browser automatically transmits to us. These are:

  • browser type and browser version
  • operating system used
  • referrer URL
  • hostname of the accessing computer
  • time of the server request
  • IP address

This data is not merged with other data sources.

This data is collected on the basis of Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR. The website operator has a legitimate interest in the technically error-free presentation and optimisation of its website – for this purpose, the server log files must be recorded. Server log files are deleted after 14 days.

Submission of contributions (pins)

If you submit a contribution (pin) via our website, we process the following personal data:

  • the text entered by you,
  • the location (geocoordinates) selected by you on the map,
  • your e-mail address (for confirmation of the submission),
  • the time of submission and confirmation,
  • technical data (IP address, browser information).

The processing of the above data is carried out on the basis of your consent pursuant to Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a GDPR, which you give by sending the pin and confirming it by e-mail. Consent can be revoked at any time with effect for the future.

For the purpose of confirming your submission, an e-mail is sent to the address you provided. Your published contribution (text and location) is publicly visible on the map. The e-mail address is not displayed publicly.

Use of AI on the website

We use AI-powered services and/or applications on our website.

We use artificial intelligence (AI) on our website as follows:

To support the processing of submitted content, we use AI-powered services. These are used in particular for the linguistic normalization of texts, automated pre-moderation checks, and translations of published or submitted content. In this context, texts may be transmitted directly to Mistral AI (a French AI company) and processed using the AI model “Ministral 8B.” This use is solely for the provision and quality assurance of our services as well as to support content review.

The recipient of the data transmission is Mistral AI as the provider of the AI model used.

As a rule, personal data is not transferred to third countries, as processing is carried out by a provider based in the European Union. If, in individual cases, processing takes place outside the European Union, this will be done exclusively on the basis of appropriate safeguards within the meaning of Art. 46(2) GDPR.

As part of the automated pre-moderation process, a decision regarding the publication or rejection of a contribution may be made solely by automated means. The data subject has the right to request human intervention, to express their point of view, and to contest the decision.

The use of these AI-supported functions is based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest lies in the use of modern technologies to improve our services and to enable efficient content processing. Where consent is required, processing is carried out exclusively on the basis of Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR and Section 165(1) TKG 2021. You may withdraw your consent at any time.

Further information on data processing in connection with this AI service can be found in the relevant section of this privacy policy.

5. Plugins and tools

OpenStreetMap

We use the map service of OpenStreetMap (OSM).

We integrate the map material of OpenStreetMap on the server of the OpenStreetMap Foundation, St John’s Innovation Centre, Cowley Road, Cambridge, CB4 0WS, United Kingdom. The United Kingdom is considered a third country that is safe in terms of data protection law. This means that the United Kingdom has a level of data protection that corresponds to the level of data protection in the European Union. When using the OpenStreetMap maps, a connection to the servers of the OpenStreetMap Foundation is established. In the process, among other things, your IP address and further information about your behaviour on this website may be forwarded to the OSMF. For this purpose, OpenStreetMap may under certain circumstances store cookies in your browser or use comparable recognition technologies.

The use of OpenStreetMap is in the interest of an appealing presentation of our online offers and of making the places indicated by us on the website easy to find. This constitutes a legitimate interest within the meaning of Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR. If corresponding consent has been requested, processing is carried out exclusively on the basis of Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a GDPR and § 165 para. 1 TKG 2021, insofar as the consent includes the storage of cookies or access to information on the user’s end device (e.g. device fingerprinting). Consent can be revoked at any time.
